So if you are a travel buff, or intend to become one, looking for every reason to take a flight to an exciting destination, this is the lineup you’ve been waiting for:

TRANSFORMING SPACES

If you like Art, this is for you. This annual event, since 2004, redefines the perception of Bahamian art and creativity, providing exposure for hundreds of local artists and showcases galleries throughout Nassau. Take a leap into a beautiful space and delve into Bahamian culture through Art.

Daily flights to Nassau are available from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando in Florida, as well as most Out Islands; and at least twice weekly from Turks & Caicos, Cuba and Haiti.


3RD ANNUAL ART IN THE PARK

ELEUTHERA HOMECOMINGS

All roads lead to Eleuthera on April 9! Here are three fabulous Homecomings to choose from, or if you’re
adventurous, choose all three!

LOWER BOGUE HOMECOMING, ELEUTHERA (April 9 – 13, 2020): This is the time residents and descendants of Lower Bogue Eleuthera come together to reunite, interact and enjoy Bahamian music, food, drinks and cultural activities. Direct flights to North Eleuthera from Nassau are available Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

ROCK SOUND HOMECOMING, ELEUTHERA (April 9 – 13, 2020): Residents and descendants of Rock Sound come together to do the same. This Homecoming includes the traditional parade of Junkanoo, indigenous to the Islands of The Bahamas. Direct flights to Rock Sound from Nassau are available daily.

JAMES CISTERN HERITAGE AFFAIR, ELEUTHERA (April 9 – 13, 2020): Another Homecoming, this to build the community and foster closer relationships among descendants. Enjoy live band performances, Bahamian food, drinks and cultural show. Direct flights depart Nassau for Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera every Saturday and Sunday; two flights on Mondays and Fridays.

SOUTH BAHAMAS FESTIVALS

April 9 – 15, 2020
Crooked Island | Mayaguana (BAHAMAS)

CROOKED ISLAND HOMECOMING FESTIVAL, CROOKED ISLAND (April 9 – 13): Residents and descendants of Crooked Island return to mix and mingle in a social atmosphere. This event includes a beauty pageant, fashion show, sports tournaments, Easter Egg hunt, raffle and many more. Take a flight south. Direct flights depart Nassau for Crooked Island twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

BETSY BAY HOMECOMING FESTIVAL, MAYAGUANA (April 10 – 15): This festival brings in descendants of Mayaguana from around the islands to “build on the legacy of their forefathers.” It’s a time of celebration and family fun. Flights depart Nassau for Mayaguana every Monday and Friday.

ACKLINS ISLAND REGATTA

In The Bahamas, there is nothing like a Regatta! It’s the time when locals come from everywhere to indulge in food, drinks (did we say drinks?), games, activities, music and oh yes, there’s some sailing of sloops in there too—Class A, B and C! If you’ve never plaited the pole, climbed the greasy pole, cracked conch, or attended a skippers party, this is your chance.

Direct flights depart Nassau for Acklins twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

WHITE MARLIN ROUNDUP

The White Marlin Roundup is your perfect transition from sailfish to blue marlin season. This inaugural tournament offers up white marlin for the first leg of the Abaco Diamond Series. 67TH ANNUAL NATIONAL FAMILY ISLAND REGATTA (EXUMA)

April 21 – 25, 2020

The BIGGEST regatta in the country, George Town, Exuma’s exciting and long awaited event offers five days of sailing beautiful Bahamian native sloops, a tradition that has started from 1954 and today is one of the oldest regattas in The Bahamas. Of course, after the races, it’s time to mix and mingle!

Daily flights are available to Exuma from Nassau.

THE SHOOTOUT – [PRODUCTION vs. CUSTOM

April 29 – May 2, 2020
Abaco (BAHAMAS)

This very exclusive Billfish tournament is by invitation-only and is limited to 50 custom-built inboard boats, 32 feet or larger. The boats chosen to represent the U.S. custom boat manufacturers, and teams compete among the most elite fleet of sport boats assembled in one location. This charity event contributes more than $500,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Wounded Warriors, and many other organizations in need—and no better time to support than now after the devastation of Dorian. You won’t participate in the tournament without an invitation, but what a great time to find yourself in Abaco as an onlooker and beach-goer!

BAHAMAS CARNIVAL

Carnival is here once again! This festive destination event that provides a vibrant experience, rich with culture that uniquely incorporates traditional Carnival vibes from around the world with a touch of Bahamian flare. Locals and visitors from around the world descend on the Islands of The Bahamas to become immersed in all things Bahamian.

CATCH JERRY CHILE (FUN RUN/WALK)

If you want to add a community project to your repertoire, this is a great place to start. The five-mile Fun Run/Walk begins in James Cistern and ends in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera. This event aids healthy lifestyle promotions, health seminars, nutritional counselling and fitness training. It also extends to provide assistance to cancer patients.

Flights are available daily to Eleuthera from Nassau.

LONG ISLAND REGATTA

June 3 – 6, 2020
Long Island (BAHAMAS)

The only thing better than a regatta is another regatta! This one is the second largest in The Bahamas, next to the National Family Island Regatta held in The Exumas and is the major fund-raiser on Long Island. Some of the sailing sloops that take part in the regatta are built right on the island in the settlement of Mangrove Bush. There is also lots to eat and drink, including tasty native mutton dishes, plus a kids' corner, games for the entire family, and performances by local bands. Don’t miss out on this event.

PINEAPPLE FEST

June 4 – 6, 2020
7:00 pm – 12:00 midnight Eleuthera (BAHAMAS)

Everyone knows if you want the best pineapples you must visit Eleuthera! This festival in Gregory Town is all about that. First introduced in 1988, this annual soiree is a celebration of the tradition of pineapple farming on Eleuthera, and honours the pineapple farmers for their outstanding contributions to the community. It is designed around the harvesting of pineapples, to create awareness of this once lucrative and important agricultural heritage. Bahamians and visitors from all walks of life come together to enjoy and participate in pineapple-themed activities, such as a pineapple eating contest, pineapple cooking contest, old time pineapple crazy sports, plaiting of the pineapple pole, non-stop pineapple party time with live entertainment, native food, and much more. This is one to add to your list.

ALL MAYAGUANA REGATTA

June 19 – 21, 2020
Mayaguana (BAHAMAS)


Come experience the many events that will be offered for this regatta, deep in the South of The Bahamas. If you need a reason to see this gem, this is it. The All Mayaguana Regatta is expected to bring in large numbers of out Islanders to join in all the celebrations. Each night will consist of cultural experiences, a Junkanoo rush-out, community band performances, climbing of the greasy pole, plaiting of the Maypole, and live band music.


Flights are available twice weekly to Mayaguana from Nassau, on Fridays and Mondays.
